The Pre-Vacation Hair Timeline: What to Book and When

Crafting Beauty, One Story at a Time

You’ve booked the flights. You’ve planned the outfits. But have you thought about your vacation hair?

The difference between ‘I love my vacation photos’ and ‘I can’t believe I let my hair look like that’ is usually a matter of timing. Great vacation hair doesn’t happen by accident — it happens by planning. Here’s exactly when to book everything.

4-6 Weeks Before — Smoothing Treatment or Extensions

If you want to step off the plane with smooth, manageable hair, book your smoothing treatment 4-6 weeks before departure. Treatments need time to settle into the hair and go through a few wash cycles to reach peak performance. Booking early means your treatment is working at its best by the time you travel.

For hair extensions, this same window allows for ordering your custom color match and the initial application. If you need adjustments or a second appointment, you have time.

2-3 Weeks Before — Color Refresh

Book your color appointment 2-3 weeks before you leave. Whether it’s balayage, gray coverage, a gloss, or toner, this timing allows the color to settle and look natural by departure day.

Fresh color that’s had time to soften photographs beautifully. You’ll look vibrant in every vacation photo without that ‘just-dyed’ stiffness.

1 Week Before — Trim + Deep Conditioning

Schedule a trim and deep conditioning treatment the week before you leave. Fresh ends photograph better, and deep conditioning ensures your hair is hydrated and healthy before travel.

This is also the time to address any last-minute concerns. Dry ends? Rough texture? Your stylist can recommend an in-salon treatment that makes a noticeable difference in a single visit.

The Day Before — Blowout or Style

Travel with your hair done. A blowout the day before means you step off the plane looking polished instead of frazzled. You’ll have one less thing to worry about during travel — and you’ll feel confident from the moment you arrive.

We recommend booking with a stylist who already knows your hair, but even a first-time blowout at Frenzy will set you up for a stress-free departure.

Your vacation hair needs a plan, not a prayer. Start your pre-vacation countdown and book everything on the right timeline. Your vacation photos will thank you.
